This soil map of San Antonio opened up my eyes to looking at soil in complex ways that affected how we excavate in archaeology. I learned that there were different types of soil and sediment such as Vertisol, Mollisol, and Alfisol. Vertisol was very common in San Antonio and had a clay like texture.
It also provided a broad context of our location within the region and its affect on vegetation.

This is an old map from the acequias of San Antonio. It is a historical map that outlined lot arrangements in relation to the acequias and the San Antonio river.
This is a map south of San Antonio. Mission San Juan is where I did the majority of my field work in archaeology. The hike and bike trails were being built through this area and we had to excavate for any cultural material. There were lots of projectile points, arrowheads, and burned rock.
